Avenue Merger Helps Pinnacle Become Third-Biggest Bank Based on Deposits in Nashville Market
Pinnacle Financial Partners, Inc. (Nasdaq/NGS: PNFP) announced today that it had grown its deposit market share within the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro-Franklin metropolitan statistical area (Nashville MSA) to 9.98 percent for the 12 months ended June 30, 2016, according to a recent Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) report.
At June 30, 2016, Pinnacle ranked fourth in total deposits among the 65 financial institutions that operate in the Nashville MSA. On July 1, 2016, Pinnacle closed its acquisition of Avenue Financial Holdings, Inc. The firm’s pro forma market share total at June 30, 2016 is 11.84 percent, placing Pinnacle in the No. 3 spot ahead of SunTrust’s share of 11.45 percent.
“According to research from Greenwich Associates, Pinnacle has enjoyed the No. 1 market share position among businesses in Nashville for several years, and the latest FDIC market share report shows that we’ve been successful in growing deposit share across business lines,” said M. Terry Turner, Pinnacle’s president and chief executive officer. “Not only did we grow deposits organically over the previous year, but we also claimed the No. 3 spot in the market as a result of our merger with Avenue. We expect to continue taking share from larger regionals as we build Nashville’s bank together.”
Excluding the Avenue merger, Pinnacle grew its deposit market share in the Nashville MSA by 0.79 percentage points from June 30, 2015 to June 30, 2016, adding more than $760 million in deposits.
The firm maintained its top spot in Rutherford County with 25.4 percent market share and is now the second-largest financial institution in Wilson County with 12.1 percent market share.
Pinnacle Financial Partners provides a full range of banking, investment, trust, mortgage and insurance products and services designed for businesses and their owners and individuals interested in a comprehensive relationship with their financial institution. The American Banker recognized Pinnacle as the third best bank to work for in the country in 2015.
The firm began operations in a single downtown Nashville location in October 2000 and has since grown to approximately $9.7 billion in assets at June 30, 2016. As the second-largest bank holding company headquartered in Tennessee, Pinnacle operates in the state’s four largest markets, Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga, as well as several surrounding counties.
