Four Advisors and a Financial Specialist Expand Pinnacle's Raleigh Glenwood Team
Pinnacle Financial Partners has expanded commercial banking services at the firm’s Raleigh Glenwood office with the addition of financial advisors Ron Schappell and Dillon Ortman, both of whom come from BBVA. They advise commercial and middle market clients as part of Pinnacle’s client advisory group. Also joining Pinnacle are Darrin Blalock, Chris Frederick and Kathy Santoli.

Schappell was previously city president in Raleigh for BBVA and has 30 years of financial services experience. Prior to his work at BBVA, he was with PNC Bank via its acquisition of RBC Bank. Schappell earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from East Carolina University in Greenville and completed the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He served on the board of directors for both the Cary YMCA and Cary Visual Arts and is an alumnus of Leadership Cary.
Ortman brings more than six years of financial services experience from BBVA, including roles as relationship support specialist in Birmingham, AL, and commercial relationship associate and corporate relationship manager in Raleigh. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University while lettering in baseball all four years and spent time with the Los Angeles Angels in their minor league system. Ortman is a board member and sponsorship committee chair for Capital City Clauses, a non-profit organization in Raleigh.
Blalock joined Pinnacle as a credit advisor with 20 years of experience in commercial and consumer underwriting and lending. He has been a commercial lender for United Bank in Durham, NC, for the last three years and also has experience with Benchmark Community Bank, SunTrust Bank and Fidelity Bank, all in North Carolina. Blalock earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.
Frederick joined Pinnacle as a credit advisor, bringing 16 years of financial services experience most recently at North State Bank in Raleigh, where he was a commercial portfolio manager. He has also worked for Self Help Credit Union in Durham, NC, and First Citizens and PNC/RBC in Raleigh. Frederick earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and completed the Omega Commercial Analyst Training Program at SunTrust University in Greensboro. He is a board member on the investment committee at Natural Capital Investment Fund, a local CDFI, and the UNCW Alumni Association.
Santoli comes to Pinnacle from Fidelity Bank, where she worked for 24 years in roles including branch manager and mortgage loan specialist. At Pinnacle, she is a financial specialist. Santoli is a member of the Fuquay Varina, NC, Arts Council and the Cary Leads Networking Group. She completed a certificate program through the East Carolina University Commercial Lending School.
