Pinnacle Financial Partners is the No. 4 Best Workplace for Women

September 18, 2020

Pinnacle Financial Partners is the nation’s fourth Best Workplace for Women. The new list from FORTUNE magazine and Great Place to Work® places the firm alongside companies like Hilton and Target for the way women associates view their experience in terms of fairness and equity.

This is Pinnacle’s third appearance on the list. Earlier this year, the same organizations named the firm as the No. 4 Best Workplace for Millennials and one of 50 Companies That Care.

“The first women leaders at Pinnacle were among the architects of our culture, values and brand, all of which have remained constant for 20 years,” said Sarae Janes Lewis, Pinnacle’s director of associate and client experience. “That legacy of fairness, personal attention and doing the right thing makes our firm a great place to work for all people. Our founders knew the importance of diverse perspectives at the very beginning, and that commitment continues today.”

Women make up 67 percent of Pinnacle’s associate base and half of all managers. On recent internal and third-party surveys, female associates reported:

  • They received a fair share of profits – 96 percent
  • Promotions go to those who deserve them – 93 percent
  • Managers avoid playing favorites – 91 percent

“We’ve always set out to be the best place to work and do business, and a big part of that is intentionally creating a culture of equality and fairness,” said Terry Turner, Pinnacle’s president and CEO. “Like many companies, we’re reflecting on our own performance in terms of representation and diversity. While we feel good about our track record, we have taken deliberate steps to ensure we are living up to our ideals. We’ve elevated more women to our senior leadership team, we’re giving more weight to diversity in our hiring model, and we’re evaluating some of our associate development strategies.”

To coordinate and guide that work, Pinnacle created the role of diversity and inclusion officer this year. To monitor and report on it, the firm formed a Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, which released its first report in early 2020.

The Best Workplace for Women list is built from 4.7 million employee surveys nationwide. The questions allow women to share their experiences in the workplace and compare the results to men in the same company. It looks at aspects like trust and the ability to reach their full potential, no matter who they are or what they do. They also look at how well represented women are in the workforce and throughout management.
