Pinnacle's Michael Corbett Receives Captive Insurance Award From Captive International

October 03, 2022

Pinnacle Financial Partners captive insurance advisor Michael Corbett was named Individual Banker of the Year in Captive International’s U.S. Awards, which recognize the best-in-class service providers in the U.S. captive insurance industry. Corbett is the individual winner in the banking services category.

“I’m honored that my work in captives over the past 20 years has made an impact and that the relationships I’ve formed resulted in my nomination,” said Corbett. “I owe gratitude to the former Gov. Bill Haslam, who had the foresight to make the State of Tennessee a nationally recognized captive domicile and to the leaders at Pinnacle who called on me two years ago to serve clients from the private sector. Using my experience to provide effective advice to commercial clients at Pinnacle has been a rewarding way to contribute to the captive industry.”

Corbett came to Pinnacle in early 2020 with more than 40 years of financial services experience. Prior to Pinnacle he was the regulatory director of captive insurance for the State of Tennessee’s Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI), where he licensed 669 Risk Bearing Entities (RBEs) made up of 200 captive insurance companies and 469 cell companies, representing over $1.4 billion in annual premiums. He also led a consulting practice that specialized in captive insurance and was chair of the Vermont Captive Insurance Association.

“We’re fortunate to have one of the world’s top captive leaders on our team,” said Sam Belk, senior lending officer at Pinnacle. “Captive insurance is an innovative and complex offering that lets clients manage their own risk and plan for the future with confidence. Michael is an expert advisor, and we’re proud that he puts that expertise to work for our clients.”

Corbett was named to the Captive Review Hall of Fame in 2021 and the Power 50 in 2016, 2017 and 2018. He was also named the 2015 Captive Professional of the Year.

The Captive International awards are based on responses to a comprehensive online questionnaire, as well as phone interviews with select contacts. Respondents were asked to name up to three firms or individuals with whom they’ve worked, based on their competence, expertise and innovation. Domiciles, firms and individuals were ranked on a scale with respondents providing the reasoning behind their votes.
