Making a decision on the best structure for a business is a very important one, but no single approach works for everybody. Factors to consider include the product or service the company provides, as well as potential liabilities and tax implications for the business and owner. It’s extremely important for business owners to talk to their attorney and accountant when choosing a structure.

The five main types of business structures are:

  • Sole proprietorship
  • Partnerships
    • General partnership
    • Limited partnership
    • Limited liability partnership
  • Limited liability company (LLC)
  • C Corp
  • S Corp
